November 20, 2016 — So close!! Our U13 Liberty girls were a tiebreaker away from putting a bow on their successful season, but their intense effort against Baltimore Celtic in downright frigid weather this morning wasn't enough to punch in a goal a delivery a trip to the finals.
Welcome to the Hempfield Adidas Fall Classic, where the weather is always suspect and the soccer is top notch. 2016's edition was no different, as the Liberty notched two deserved wins on Saturday: 3-1 vs. Rochester Rhinos Elite and 5-1 LDC United Sting.
However, despite the Liberty's success, their upcoming opponents, Baltimore Celtic had given up no goals on Saturday and, therefore, owned the tiebreaker. The Liberty would need a win in Sunday's match to win their bracket and advance to the Division A1 final.
The weather was the story on Sunday morning, with temperatures in the 30s, but the 20+ mph winds making it feel like the upper teens. Bundled up and ready to play, both teams hit the pitch in what would become an aggressive and physical, but clean, match. The game was played mostly in the midfield, with short-duration attacks by both sides. It wasn't until the final 10 minutes, when the Liberty pressed forward in search of that winning goal, that Baltimore Celtic started to feel the heat.
However, when the final whistle blew, their defense had withstood the pressure and the two sides remained drawn 0-0 and Baltimore Celtic had earned their trip to the final.
It was a fabulous season, girls, and certainly something for everyone to be proud of! We can't wait to see what comes next for you!
October 16, 2016 — As part of a breast cancer awareness month fundraiser supporting the Bridge to Healing Foundation, our U13 Liberty girls were awarded the opportunity of a lifetime today: to play on the pitch at Talen Energy Stadium and entertain the crowd during halftime of the Union's match against Orlando City!
The girls had a blast, showed the crowd some great soccer, and walked off the pitch winners, having raised money for a very worthwhile cause.
The Bridge to Healing Foundation is a non-profit organization that seeks to serve the needs of patients living with a cancer diagnosis by bridging the gap between the patient and available resources. Facing a serious illness such as cancer is frightening. Not being able to afford ongoing medical expenses such as paying for the drugs needed for your treatment can be overwhelming.
October 9, 2016 — Congratulations to our U13 Liberty girls on one more championship this season! With this afternoon's 1-0 victory over Ukrainians Nationals Napadachi 04 Red, the girls won the Ukrainian Nationals Columbus Cup and captured their fourth title of the season!
On their way to the championship game, the girls logged convincing wins over Colonial Cobras (4-1), Vorrhees Pride (5-0), and Huntingdon Valley Phoenix (5-0).
The championship game against host Napadachi 04 Red was predictably tight, staying scoreless until the final two minutes, when Mikayla Sheedy redirected a low cross past the Ukies keeper to notch the game-winning goal!
Congratulations on another great win!
September 4, 2016 — Champions again! Congratulations to our U13 Liberty girls for sweeping their way to another championship in the top division of the 29th Annual Al Perlini Memorial Tournament.
In four same-day games, the Liberty outscored their opponents—Chestnut Hill Lightning, Warrington SC Vipers, Buckingham United 2004 Blue, and Haverford Red Storm—by a combined 15-3 score. Congratulations on another great run, girls!
Goal scorers: Lauren Edwards (6), Addison Gormley, Liv Navarrete (2), Kirsten O'Brien, Kiersten Pumilia, Brianna Wright, and guest players (3).
August 28, 2016 — Another trophy for the case! With a nailbiting 2-0 win over the Massapequa SC Magic today, our U13 Liberty girls allowed just a single goal through four games, sweeping their way to the championship at the Spirit United Kickoff Classic!
The fun started on Saturday morning with a decisive 3-0 win over the FC Bucks 2004 NPL team, then continued with a 4-0 shutout of Pennsylvania SA United under the setting sun.
Sunday morning saw the Liberty claim their place in the finals with a 5-1 win over Penny Legacy 04 White, setting up the afternoon finals showdown with the Massapequa SC Magic.
The final was tightly contested and physical from the opening whistle, but the Liberty claimed the early lead in the 5th minute on an upper 90 strike by Vania Mokonchu. Massapequa pressed hard at the end of the half, getting off eight shots in the final 15 minutes, but the Liberty survived the barrage, up 1-0 at the half. Early in the second half (37'), Liv Navarrete put the Liberty up 2-0, making a great move 1v1 to open up space and bury the ball in the side net. Massapequa mounted several more attacks, but the Liberty defense held strong and captured the team's second championship of the summer!
Congratulations on a great tournament, girls!
Goals scored by: Lauren Edwards (2), Vania Mokonchu (4), Liv Navarrete, Kiersten Pumilia (2), Megan Sanelli, Mikayla Sheedy, Josie Stockett, and Brianna Wright (2)
July 31, 2016 — In their first tournament together after the US Soccer age group change—also their last playing 8v8—our newly minted Liberty girls swept their way to a rain-shortened title at the Lititz Summer Showcase!
Saturday's action opened with a 5-2 victory over Reading United's Summer Select team, then was quickly followed by a 2-0 victory over Lititz's own Soles United team that was cut short by a torrential downpour followed closely by a thunderstorm. We think the video speaks for itself...
On Sunday, the Liberty took care of business, putting away FC Broncos STC 2-0, capturing their first title of the season! Congratulations, girls! We know there is more greatness to come!
August 2, 2015 — In their final campaign as U10s, our Liberty girls were proud finalists in the 2015 Lititz Summer Showcase. They opened Saturdays play with a 3-1 win over the Harrisburg City Islanders Select team, then finished the day with a 7-2 victory over host Lititz. Those two wins were enough to secure a spot in the final heading into Sunday’s matches.
The Liberty faced an accomplished Falcon FC team back-to-back on Sunday, first in the division match-up, then hours later, falling short in a tough and highly skilled championship match.
Congratulations to our Liberty in facing their first “Select” team competition and making a run to the finals. Great job, Liberty!
July 18, 2015 — One of our U12 Inferno girls had the unique and enviable opportunity to attend a soccer camp in New Jersey with Carli Lloyd (@carlilloyd), fresh off her World Cup victory! Not only did she get to meet and train with Carli, but she got to play with her as well! Rumor is she had a hat trick in the training session, too...
Were all jealous! Who wants to meet in Brazil for the 2016 Olympics?
May 2, 2015 — Congratulations to our U10 Strikers girls for winning the 1st Annual Continental FC Spring Invitational! The Strikers finished undefeated and recorded and three clean sheets! Great job, Strikers!
The Stikers demonstrated total team play in putting together two strong wins against Continental FC Arsenal 04F (2-0) and Twin Valley Fireballs (4-0).
In the championship game, the Strikers faced Concord Challenge (DE), who were also undefeated heading into the final. The Strikers jumped out to an early lead and held form to win the championship, 5-0. Way to go, Strikers!
November 9, 2014 — With todays 5-1 win over Coventry Crush White, the U10 Strikers girls cemented their undefeated finish in the PAGS Arsenal division! Congratulations to the Strikers on a fantastic fall season and a perfect 9‑0 finish!
