Methacton United Soccer Club (MUSC) offers two soccer programs, an
Intramural Program and a Travel program. The following are frequently
asked questions (and answers) regarding the MUSC Travel Soccer program.
Is MUSC Travel Soccer the right choice for my child?
MUSC
travel soccer starts at age 7 (U8-under 8 yrs old) and can continue
until your child graduates from high school. Travel soccer
generally involves a large
time commitment but offers more training and a higher level of
competition and gratification.
How and when are the teams chosen and when do they play?
During
the first 3 weeks in May of each year, there will be 2-3
tryout sessions for each age/gender group. A prospective player must participate in at least 2 of the
tryout sessions. A committee made up of unbiased evaluators assists in
the evaluation of players. Coaches then choose their rosters based upon their observations and
the committee evaluations. The Fall travel season usually starts around Labor Day
and ends the 2nd week of November. Practices begin in late July or
early August. Some teams continue playing year round in Winter indoor and/or outdoor Spring leagues.
Who is coaching my child?
The
coaching committee selects all travel coaches. Each of our travel
coaches is encouraged to earn a coaching license. They earn these
licenses by taking training courses provided by the State soccer
organization. This means that they are committed to improving the
quality of soccer training. At the end of each travel season, the
coaching committee evaluates all travel coaches based on parent
feedback.
Do the travel teams train every night?
No.
Most teams train 2 nights per week. In addition, each team is given the
opportunities to be trained in different programs and clinics. MUSC
also provides a week long travel camp each summer at Arcola.
Does it cost an “arm and leg?”
No.
In comparison to other local youth sports, MUSC travel program
continues to be an exceptional value. The cost will be different
depending on the team. Some teams participate in more tournaments and
some teams play year round. Please ask your coach what his\her
expectations are.
How much actual “traveling” is involved?”
30
to 45 minutes is normal for league games. A team may decide to play in
tournaments, in which case, more traveling may be involved. Normally
there is one game per weekend.
Tournaments
Tournaments
are a great deal of fun for the players offering a high level of
competition while playing several games over a weekend. Some
tournaments involve travel and overnight stays. The number of
Tournaments and the location of tournaments is dependent on the Coaches
in collaboration with the parents of the team. Most teams participate
in at least 2 tournaments a year.
