U13 Girls Blue Flamz Game Recaps

Methacton United Game Recaps Sunday October  22nd
Flamz host BYC: Flamz Win 0:4 (0:2)
Another wonderful fall soccer day and even better, the Flamz again showed up "Ready to Play." BYC had beaten second place Fishtown last weekend and were looking to move to first place, but the Flamz were not to be denied. We saw more than one series of  passes that were at a level far beyond what you would expect at U12. The combination of Emily to Sammy to Goal was responsible for the two scores in the first period. But BYC hung tough and brought the match to the Flamz in the second period. A Jackie to Amanda setup got the first score of the second period. Then Sammy fed Christina for a picture perfect far post boot. Still BYC stepped up the attack and were denied a score only by great defensive backup. Lizzy knocked down a shot that should have been in, the ball got away and was loose in front of the net but was deftly cleared by her defense with no harm done. Exciting soccer, great play by both teams and another step up for the Flamz.

Sunday Octoberr 15th
Flamz host RTSC: Flamz Win 0:5
It was late in the day and shadows were creeping onto the pitch as the match began. But it was a beautiful afternoon for soccer. The girls had a bad time at the tournament the week before and now much better understood the meaning of "Ready to Play." And ready to play they were. Even with two key players still out, the Flamz regained their form and totally dominated the match. Passing was impressive. Even the defense played in RTSC's end much of the match.Allie led off the scoring with an unassisted shot early in the first period, followed by two scores in a row from Emily, who was playing up from our U11 team. The first of Emily's goals was assisted by Amanda and the second by Sammy. Then Sammy had her turn with an assist from Jackie. Finally Julia put in a pass from Maddy. It was overall the best game that we have seen the Flamz play up to this point in the season.

Sunday October 10th
Flamz Extinguished at White Water Classic.
Right from the beginning of the first match we could tell, the Flamz were out. Not that they were blown out, the worse of the losses was 2:0, but there was no scoring drive, no quality passing and even the defense appeared to be confused at times. No excuses. We played badly. Hopefully we got that out of our system.

Sunday September 24th
Flamz host King of Prussia: Flamz Win 0:2 (0:1)
The sky was dark and rain threatened. The start of the game was delayed by almost 30 minutes due to a late start of a prior game. From the opening kickoff, the Flamz took just 7 minutes to score on Maura's unassisted one on three breakaway. But then the Flamz went flat, playing more like an intramural team than the team we have seen the last three games. Perhaps there was a clandestine sleepover on Saturday night... While the defense kept the ball generally in the Prussians's end, after the first goal the offense had a hard time moving beyond the 18 with anything like a scoring formation. It turned into a long succession of offsides, wide shots and direct-to-the-keeper taps. Our second goal didn't come until the 46th minute when Allie drove a free direct kick from just outside the 18 into the back of the net. While a win is a win, this one was not pretty.

Sunday September 17th
Flamz visit Radnor: Flamz Win 5:0 (4:0)
After a week of rain, soft fields and outright cancellations, we were all ready for a mud match. But to their credit, Radnor changed venues and the pitch at picturesque Dittmer Field was dry and firm. The Flamz scored early and often through the first period, racking up 4 against with some of our best team play of the young season. Jackie, Sammy and Julia (twice) scored with assists from Tara, Claudia and Maura, while the Flamz defenders kept the ball in Radnor's end much of the period.  Coach Joe reset the lineup for the second period, allowing players to see different positions under match conditions. But Radnor's defense stiffened and our only score of the second period was Jackie (from a midfield slot,) on a pass from Allie, 49 minutes in. In reality, this match could have gone either way. The soccer adage about scoring first held here.

Sunday September 10th
Flamz visit Garnet Valley: Flamz Win 3:1
The Flamz scored midway through the first period then added a PK winner and a brilliant half pitch breakaway with a to-the-far-post cross in the second period.  Garnet Valley scored late in the second period on a blocked vision play that got through the legs of our keeper. Another very even match with the outcome continuously in doubt. We shall always remember cleaning about 10 bags of the remains of fireworks from the pitch prior to the match

.Saturday September 9th
Flamz host Fishtown: Flamz Win 0:2
It was a perfect fall soccer day and the Flamz were ready for this match. The Flamz first win as a re-formed team came in the last match of the Battle at Hilltop Tournament the weekend before. This first league win against Fishtown showed that all the hard work is starting to pay off. This match was very even with great play by both teams, but the Flamz kept their defense stout and managed two hard fought scores and a determined keeper save of a loose ball on the line to preserve the shutout. Exciting soccer!

Congratulations on a great season! We are the Division Champions!

The game today was fantastic. You played like the best team in the division. We jumped on them early and had a 2-0 lead by half time. We protected our lead in the second half. BYC had a brief run and applied pressure in the second half, but we kept them off of the scoreboard. With only one real shot on goal to show for their efforts, which Lizzy easily handled, we put the game away.,We got to the ball first and kept the ball out of harms way with great defense and clearance. The coaches appreciated the breathing room today after the game yesterday! (Phew!)

Some final statistics from PAGS:

10 wins and 1 loss
29 goals for
3 goals against

Fantastic results! Our defense and goal keeping during the year were the backbone of the team. It is tough to improve on 3 goals in ten games! Allie, Christina, Amanda, Stacey and Maddie were exceptional all year. Our defense, pressing when the oportunity was available also scored some key goals for us to win important games.

Special thanks to our goalies who were bored more often than not, because our defense was so tough! Lizzy, Maddy, Amanda and Maura all contributed. Lizzy came up with a great diving save to preserve today's shutout!

The midfield controlled the game most of the year. Once we made the key change to go with 4 midfielders during the pre-season tournament and stuck with it for the rest of the  year, we were hard to beat. Claudia and Jackie were very good on the wings, attacking the flanks and crossing the ball. Inside midfielders Julia, Katie, Candace and Tara were excellent at controlling the middle of the pitch.

Our forwards, Maura, Sammy and Emily kept constant pressure on the defense and created lots of scoring chances and goals.

Special thanks to Emily D. for her contributions all over the field as a secondary player. She was a key addition to the team during the stretch run.

Expect to move up next year to a tougher division.

We are very proud of the way the girls grew as a team and handled themselves. It was enjoyable to spend time with them at practice and at games.

Special thanks to the parents for your dedication during the year. We know it is a big time commitment and appreciate your efforts getting the girls to practice and to games and team events. Thanks to those who hosted team events and helped us through the year.

We appreciate your generous gifts as well. Target is our favorite store! Very thoughtful.

Thanks also to Coaches Andy and Dave for their dedication and time.

Tom Dinnella is the best with great photos and web site contributions.

We will send out dates for the team party over the next week or so to celebrate the great year and championship.

GO BLUE FLAMZ!!!

Today's BYC Game
Another convincing win against a tough BYC team. The first half was excellent with some great passing and teamwork. BYC came on strong in the second half but could not score vs. Lizzy and the defense while we managed to score twice. Everyone played a strong game and contributed. Excellent job to the girls. Only a few more games to go to wrap up first place for the regular season.

No practice this Wed. We will practice Sat at Mt Kirk from 8:30-10:30.

***We do need volunteers(s) to line Mt Kirk this week. Please let us know who can do this asap.  The shed at Heebner is where the lining cart and paint is stored.  We have a key.  It needs to be lined between Thurs night and Sat morning 8:30am.  (It should take about 45 minutes - 1 hour.)

Since there is no practice during the week please spend some time with your soccer ball.  Juggling, dribbling, pull backs, changing speed etc.  the drills we do in practice.  Keep your skills in tact!!!

See you all Saturday morning at Heebner

Today's  RTSC  Game
Great game today. We think it was the best The Blue Falmz have played this year. The passing was excellent. We saw some great sequences where The Flamz worked the ball from the defense, through the midfield to the forwards for good opportunities. The Flamz defense was spectacular; RTSC had only a few shots on goal. You kept the pressure on RTSC with great clearance the entire game. Thanks to our goalies who recorded another shutout-even though they did not get much work. The midfield controlled their territory and distributed the ball very well to the offence. Everyone contributed and played hard today and you got to the ball first. You also had a lot of great shooting and scoring. There were some excellent crosses as well. You did it all without 2 of our key players-Katie and Tara, get well soon girls! We brought back some good lessons from the White Water Tournament and applied them today!

Welcome to Emily DeMarco who had a great first game! Four (4) more games to go (including Fishtown-who have not yet re-scheduled!)

By the way, BYC beat Fishtown today. We play BYC next Sunday. Remember that YOU can be beat if you don't come ready to play your best. No team in this league is a pushover.

Practice Wednesday 6pm at Heebner and Saturday 8:30am at Mt Kirk. See you there.

Get Ready for The White Water Classic
We have drawn the early games on Sunday Morning!  If you are driving up that morning, please set your alarms for REALLY EARLY. Plan to leave Eagleville at 5:30AM!

Sunday, October 8th
1st game - 8:00am
2nd game - 10:00am

Then, depending on how we do, we play for:
3rd place at 3pm or
2nd place at 4pm or
1st place at 5pm.

The Tournament Website is http://www.whitewatercupclassic.org  You can get directions and maps or check the schedule.  We'll plan a team dinner (early) Saturday night.

Saturday, October 7th: Rafting
Our check-in time for rafting is 10:05AM on Saturday. This means we should be meeting there at about 9:45AM. The Rafting Website is http://www.wc-rafting.com - you can get more information there.

We encourage everyone that is rafting to go to the rafting website and read about what to wear (and not wear). You may want to rent wetsuits - depending on weather. (This is an extra cost item, but it is recommended because, regardless of the weather, getting soaked by (and soaking) the people in the other rafts is a very common occurance.)

We are looking forward to this time together as a team.  Make sure everyone gets plenty of rest!  Fun is hard work.

The KofP Game
The game today was tougher than we expected against a King of Prussia team with no wins in the league. We got away from playing team soccer and did not come out with the same fire we saw in previous matches. We did come away with a solid 2-0
win. It was another shut out with not much work for the goalies and a strong defensive effort overall, as usual. Two nice goals sealed the win on strong shots. We must continue to work on making the easy pass, reduce panic kicks and work the ball up the sides as opposed to forcing it down the middle. In the second half we saw some good sequences with crosses from the flanks and players in the right spots for shots.

We do have a video of the game which we will watch at a team get together. The Eubanks were nice enough to offer their home for this. We will set a date this week at one of the practices. It will be educational to look at positions and discuss what worked and what did not. (Editors Note: Please take your sea sickness pills prior to viewing the tape. I didn't have much time to set up the camera and my overall camera work was very sloppy. Even camera operators need to practice...)

It is getting darker earlier for practices on Wed. as we get into the fall. We may need to adjust time after this week. Let us know if 5:30 works. We will end the practices when it gets dark this week. Also, we have not had a the full team at practice in quite some time. Please try to make these as we can work to improve our play together. Also please let us know if you cannot make practice in advance.

This week, the girls set a goal to go undefeated this season in the league.
